The Texas House and the Rose Cottage are similar to each other in history and style as both were constructed in the 1890's as part of Comal Town on the Comal River. These houses were moved from their original locations on Union Street in 1995 and 1998 respectively. The construction plan of this type of house (early Texas two room frame farmhouse) was predominant during the greater part of the nineteenth century period of development in Texas. Both of these houses had been abandoned for several years. The buildings were in such a state of disrepair that, in a classic case of "one man's trash is another man's treasure," they were offered to the Miles by the McKenna Hospital administration, which needed to clear the area for building expansion and parking space. These two romantic cottages emanate simple yet graceful Texas country charm.

| NOTE: The Yellow Rose Suite is located right next
to the side of Tavern in the Gruene. If there is a loud band
playing there it can be heard inside the unit. It usually cannot
be heard in the Bluebonnet Room. If you want to
make certain you will have a private and quiet stay, take a look at
rooms in the Rose Cottage, the Country House, the Blue House, and the
Millwood House. Music at Tavern in the Gruene goes from 8pm-12am
Sun-Fri and 9pm-1am on Saturday.
