The Millwood House, designed and built by owners Ed and Billie Miles, is the only "new-old" house on the property. It was constructed with materials recycled from several historic buildings. The interior brick and pine planking were salvaged in 1998 from the antique flood-ruined Dittlinger Mill and the stones with which the fireplace was built came from a ramshackle 1840's German farmhouse that was located outside of Georgetown, Texas. These materials sat in storage for nearly 3 years until the construction of The Millwood House began in the latter half of 2001.
The original mill was built around 1847 by Wilhelm Merriwether and it was sold to Joseph Landa in 1859. Harry Landa owned the
"Landa Mill" until 1930 when it was sold to Hippolyt Dittlinger and renamed
"Dittlinger Roller Mill." The central stone structure of the mill survived the flood of '98 and stands restored on the banks of the Comal River, just outside of Landa Park.
